CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- According to China State Railway Group Co., Ltd., the second Chengdu-Chongqing high-speed railway started construction, which will serve as a new road for Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle and reduce the time needed to travel between Chengdu and Chongqing to 50 minutes on its completion, Chongqing Daily reported.

The second Chengdu-Chongqing high-speed railway starts from Chongqingbei Railway Station, passing through Yubei District, Shapingba District, Bishan District, Tongliang District, and Dazu District in Chongqing, then through Ziyang City and Chengdu City in Sichuan Province, before terminating at the Chengdu Railway Station. With a total length of 292km, the main track covers 102km in Chongqing and 190km in Sichuan. The railway will support speeds of 350km/h, and conditions will be reserved for acceleration in some sections. It’s expected that the railway will be finished in five years.

The second Chengdu-Chongqing high-speed railway will have eight stations: the existing Chongqingbei Railway Station, the expanded Chengdu Station, and six new stations including Chongqing Science City Station, Tongliang Station, Dazu Shike Station, Anyue Station, Lezhi Station, and Jianzhou Station.

The second Chengdu-Chongqing high-speed railway is a significant part of the riverside railways of our high-speed railway network (eight vertical and eight horizontal high-speed railways), as it is located between the Chengdu-Chongqing high-speed railway and the Chengdu-Suining-Chongqing high-speed railway. On its completion, the railway will connect with the Xi'an-Chengdu high-speed railway and Zhengzhou-Chongqing high-speed railway that has been completed and put in use, and Xining-Chengdu high-speed railway, Chengdu-Dazhou-Wanzhou high-speed railway, Xi'an-Chongqing high-speed railway, Chongqing-Kunming high-speed railway, Chongqing-Wanzhou high-speed railway and other lines that are under construction. The railway will improve the road network structure in the Chengdu-Chongqing area, further reduce the time needed to travel between Chengdu and Chongqing, and greatly facilitate travel for residents living along the line.
