CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- On March 9, reporters learned from China Railway No. 8 Engineering Group that the construction of Chongqingdong Railway Station and its associated integrated transportation hub (CQDZZF-3 project) officially commenced joint commissioning and testing. This milestone marks a significant achievement for this national pilot project focused on the “integrated station-city development”, laying a solid foundation for the station’s eventual opening and operation.

Located in the Chayuan area of Nan’an District, Chongqingdong Railway Station is a vital transportation hub at the intersection of China’s “Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal” high-speed rail network. Not only is it a key junction connecting five major rail corridors, including Beijing-Kunming, Baotou-Yinchuan-Haikou, Lanzhou (Xining)-Guangzhou, the Yangtze River line, and Chongqing-Xiamen, but it also serves as a new gateway and landmark for the city. With a total construction area of approximately 1.23 million square meters, the station boasts an expansive layout, featuring 15 platforms and 29 tracks. The project undertaken by China Railway No. 8 Engineering Group includes two major parts: the comprehensive development of buildings and transportation infrastructure. These include railway operational support facilities, integrated development properties, and a network of transportation tunnels consisting of eight subway tunnels, eight ramp bridges, and four major roadways on the north and south sides.

During construction, the project team applied a home design approach to deepen their planning, creating a multifunctional building in the northeast that combines conference facilities, office spaces, accommodation, dining, fitness, and recreational areas. At the same time, the team adhered to a model-based approach to guide on-site construction. Despite challenges such as tight schedules and heavy workloads, the team optimized construction procedures, enhanced coordination, and increased workforce capacity. Through double-shift operations and more than 100 days of hard work, the team completed the production and service housing six months ahead of schedule, meeting high standards. Notably, the work group for the railway’s opening and the joint debugging team were able to move into the housing early, allowing for early involvement in the new line’s operational testing.

Once completed, Chongqingdong Railway Station will join Chongqing Railway Station, Chongqingxi Railway Station, and Chongqingbei Railway Station to form the city’s four main railway hubs. It will integrate multiple high-speed rail lines, including the Chongqing-Xiamen, Chongqing-Wanzhou, Chongqing-Kunming routes, and Chongqing East Ring Railway. The station will become a mega transportation hub, combining high-speed rail, subway, buses, long-distance passenger transport, and commercial offices and play a key role in enhancing the transportation network of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle and supporting the development of the New Western Land-sea Corridor, marking a significant strategic advance for the region.
